| Our brewery is known in the trade as a five barrel
plant and produces 1700 pints during each cycle. Note the use of
the word PINT.
Call us old fashioned but we are committed to pints. The day people
go into a Highland bar and ask for a quarter litre of beer and a
35 ml malt to chase it down is the day this brewery will be converted
to the production of seaweed soup. We are a nation of beer drinks
and we want a pint – not some short measure of half a litre
or nonsense like that.
OK rant over.
Now – the story behind the brewery. We looked at various possibilities
to establish a sustainable business on the island we love and brewing
won hands down.
It’s a no brainer – enter a competitive industry with
your production based on a remote island with high freight charges
to get materials on and finished product off.

Your supplies are subject to frequent
disruption as poor weather stops the ferry. Your immediate market
is limited to less than 50 people. It’s obvious how easy it
was to persuade the bank to back us.
There’s an old saying in these parts – if it's easy
it's not worth doing and we agree. Brewing here is not straightforward
– but the quality of the ale and lager we produce makes
it worth while. We hope you agree.
We welcome visitors – we’re easy to find. Get off
the boat, look in front of you and there we are. If you are on
foot go to the shop and there is a sneaky little path along the
back of the hall. By car drive past the shop, turn first left
and follow the road round.
Opening hours depend on the stage of production we are at but
there is someone about most days. Day visitors can have their
beer delivered to the boat on our beer to pier jalopy which also
delivers round the island.
