Hip Hip Hooray - the First of May - a new look brewery starts today
Here we are a year on selling more beer than we could ever have imagined and ready for the next challenges to be offered.
If its been a little quiet on the blog front its because behind the scenes activities were taking uyp too much time - plus el skiver was away skiving (for a change).
Anyway it has come to pass that one of our number feels there is too much brewery in his life and now wishes to take more of a back seat.
The boss made it clear from the start that he did not want another business career stretching out in front of him having done that once already. So Keith is standing down from day to day bossing about and concentrating on being our financial controller which is really how it was meant to have been from the start but it was all hands to the pumps for year one. The nuisance is that he will still have to sign of the expenses.
Increased sales mean increased production and we rather suspect Bob is nearing the point where his contribution stops being fun and becomes a bit of a bind which is not what the brewery is all about.
It looks as though we are going to take on another person to help with the brewing. This leaves Chris the chief brewer and bottle washer - but he only has seven other jobs so he'll cope.
We could always get the skiver.........well perhaps not.

Where Do You Want Your Kegs, Mate
Delivery drivers live in a world of their own. Stressed maybe, hurried certainly, thoughtfull - never.

We needed more kegs, see below, and for speed got them delivered to one of our regional distribution hubs.
The hub has a driveway and ample parking for several cars. So where did he leave them?

where else - right in the gateway, no doubt in case we didn't see them tucked away elsehwere.

Kegs Away
Now we have three draught outlets we need more kegs. Delivering across the water is not easy for keg management but we have about 60 in total now but it's going to be ajob keeping track of them all and making sure they all come home.
The draught lager and 80/- is due to go on at the Cuan Mor tonight - it will be interesting to swee how it is received. Skinny - the bar manager seems really enthusiastic and says hell work with the beer to make sure its served at its best. If they put out the 80/- and lager as well as big Angus is up at the hotel here there are going to be some empty bars in Oban as customers desert for the George Street hostelery.
We feel a directors trip to Islay to check on the Port Charlotte hotel in a week or two. Hopefully the visit will not clash with the whisky festival, he lied

Customer Service Like no Other
Four O'clock and the phone rings in the brewery. Ewan Graham from the Ballygrant Inn on Islay wants to talk about stocking our beer. Top salesman sells him a triaL order. Delivery? Not a problem. It'll be with you tonight.
Then there's a made dash down to the pier where vehicles are begining to arrive for the return leg of the once a week summer day trip from Islay. We find a kind person happy to stop at Ballygrant and the beers away. \\will it arrive. Yes of course it will.
That's our third outlet on Islay.

The Trumpet Shall Sound
I know you shouldn't blow your own trumpet - but hell if you don't who will.
This evening Colonsay was at its spring finest. The sun was shining - it was warm - so a walk over the hill to the hotel was a joy.
Arriving at about 6 the bar was quiet save for some workmen and two visitors - the newly installed bar fire was lit and casting a warm glow across the room. A pint of 80/- poured beautifully and tasting magnificant - can life be any better that this.
It was a moment for quiet reflection - gazing into the bright and clear beer, savouring its malty flavour and thinking of quite how far we have managed to get in a year. Four people with not a clue between them 12 months on producing such high quality beers being appreciated by an ever growing audience. Cheers.
