Don\'t Panic Captain Mainwaring
05/28/08
Its only May - ok nearly the end of May - but the island is still far from being in full swing and beer stocks are perilously low already.
Brewing has happened twice this week - all available vessels are full - botting has been going on twice too and kegging. The IPA was bottled on Tuesday, and -
Major Bust Up At Brewery - SHOCK
05/26/08
One consequence of the appointment of Ross will be evident tomorrow when Keith returns from Glasgow. Ross is known for many things but one of the first that springs to most people's minds is his love of a well known Glasgow football club.
Keith has been in Glasgow watching the club of h -
New Man Appointed at the Brewery
05/25/08
We have decided we need a third brewing type person to take some of the strain off Bob and Chris. We enagged the services of a recruitment consultancy and they cast the net far and wide, quarter page ads in the Sunday Times that sort of thing --- and from a short list of one a final round of intervi -
Green Welly Stop
05/21/08
The GWS boycott had to be suspended temporarilly the other day when our top sales exective needed a comfort stop. At least we were just costing them cash, ok a very small amount, instead of spending it. One of the blog readers contacted us the other day to say they had been in and asked for Colonsay -
Market on Hold
05/20/08
The Glasgow Farmers Market has been put on hold for the time being on two counts. We are once again in an ongoing shortage of beer situation
and the figures are hard to justify the trip. The stall is 70+ pounds and the licence is another 17 meaning you have to fork out at least 90 before earnin -
Major Problems at Island Brewery
05/10/08
The Arran brewery has gone bust just shortly after apprently hitting the big time and getting into a number of supermarkets.
They've been hit by rising fuel and malt prices and the high cost of getting materials onto the island and finished product off again.
Where have we heard that befor -
One in the Pie for Us
05/10/08
A guy from the Sunnyside Veal farm at Sanquar came up to us at the market wanting to buy some beer. Apparently unknown to us they have been putting it into their veal pies and selling them as Colonsay Ale Veal Pies.
Guess what. He didn't have any left but one day we'll find out what they taste -
Market Report
05/10/08
The market was about the same as usual today, less 80/- being sold and more lager and IPA reflecting the warmer weather.
Should we keep going on it. Well lets throw it into the melting pot at the next board (bored) meeting next week.

Market no More?
05/07/08
Stocks are already under pressure and the summer has not really started. There is a bit of a debate going as to wether to keep going with the Glasgow Farmers Market. There are considerable costs in selling the beer there - stall, licence, travel etc - and iof there is not enough to go round it shoul -
The Best Customers in the World
05/07/08
We made a delivery of 80/- and Lager to the Cuan Mor and heard the best tale yet. One table of punters came in to the bar last night and thought they would try the 80/- ale. By the time they left that had consumed 50 pints between them. Sadly estimates of how many this was shared between vary and so -
Fame Spreads
05/05/08
The Crinan Hotel are in touch wanting to take our beers. Its a long story but the hotel is friendly with Mark - the boss at Bruichladdich and were over seeing him at his Islay distillery and were persuaded to go to the Port Charlotte Hotel for a pint of Colonsay IPA. Result - they want it.

New Capacity Used to its Full
05/01/08
Ready to brew tomorrow - an 80/- is going on which will mean that since the middle of March when the new fermenter went online we have had all three fermenters fermenting all the time. Sales are still slow on the island but of off island outlets are zipping along - beer by boat to Islay, beer by cou -
Hip Hip Hooray - the First of May - a new look brewery starts today
05/01/08
Here we are a year on selling more beer than we could ever have imagined and ready for the next challenges to be offered.
If its been a little quiet on the blog front its because behind the scenes activities were taking uyp too much time - plus el skiver was away skiving (for a change).
