Posh Malt
01/26/08
Chris was over on the mainland picking up the new lager fermenter when he had a happy and perhaps important encounter. George (remember him)
had it delivered to his pals farm in East Lothian for safe keeping. Guess what. His pal has just installed an on farm malting kiln to produce top qaulit -
Bloody January Again
01/23/08
The headline from Flanders and Swann - OK it's an age thing.
Lesson no. 37 in running an island brewery. January is dead.
Great Burns Nights in the Hotel but apart from that island beers sales are slim and mainland ones useless.
A line from one of our outlets, "we've only sold fo -
IPA Away
01/22/08
The IPA shortage is officially coming to an end. Bottling is taking place tomorrow and IPA heading for the mainland on Monday, Calmac willing.
Bob and Chris reckon its fantastic.
(They always do) -
Black Mark for Black Isle
01/22/08
Away from Peckhams and we spoke to another independent outlet who has just been told that a well known brewery that I perhaps should not name has told them they can no longer be supplied because they have just got into Tesco and most product will be going there and M%S.
That's an interesting de -
Glasgow
01/22/08
And so it came to pass the mainland sales executive went to Glasgow - and again the chat was good.
Byres road reported strong sales - Glassford street has a Colonsay McNeil managing the shop so no proglem there - and the boss of the drinks store in Hyndland is the man who picked the beer for th -
Crash Bang *******
01/18/08
Bob tghe brewer's not a man to fly off the handle. He's calm and patient even under the pressure of hitting a strike temperature. So imagine the brewery horror when from the office we hear lots of banging and crashing and unbloggable language.
Bob had been phoning through a malt order to our to -
Enough to Bring a Tear to a Glass Eye
01/17/08
We're going round mainland outlets just now with a bit of chat and samples for the staff. Lillian the boss of one of the Peckhams Branches said the beer has really taken off. As soon as she puts it out - away it goes. Peckhams and the Colonsay brewery - it was always going to be a good fit.

Sad People
01/17/08
The Google Alert rattles into life sending us a link. Its primed to wake us up at every new mention of the word Colonsay on the world wide web.
So what could it be this time. More airport nonsense, news from the Canadian Colonsay - now some guy (we presume) is elling Colonsay Brewery Beer label -
On a Roll
01/15/08
All people who know Colonsay will know the Kitchen Garden in Oban - top deli on the main street going up to the Ferry - great outlet for beer. We've called in wearing our best salesman's suit a few times but failed to meet the boss. A new approach was taken - we tried Mr Bell's invention and it work -
Oliver Twist Situation
01/15/08
Its hard making a new sale. Its perhaps harder still making the call to find out how the new slae went.
Well we emailled the nice lady at Peckhams in a sort of happy new year fancy some beer kind of a way and she didn't reply. She's form for this, just holding out for more roses we conclu -
Cheap Food
01/12/08
The great things about the market is there is lots of chat from the other stall holders. Our neighbours Jim and Anne from Ayrshire sell fantastic eggs and the queue snakes past our stall meaning folk buying eggs often buy beer by accident.
Anyway Jim was telling us he recently visited a produce -
Market Tales
01/12/08
Back at the Partick Farmers Market in Glasgow and what promised to be a rather quiet "no thanks son I'm off the booze for January" sort of a day turns out to be quite the opposite. It is also the first time since July last year that this market has gone its full four hours without any rain -
Pay Docked? More Than The Ferry Did.
01/09/08
Chris has been to the mainland to fill up the Regional Distribution Hub hidden away in the central belt countryside. As ever though in island life things rarely go as planned. Instead of a quick trip down and back returning today the boat is cancelled because of storms
So he has to stay -
80/- Ale
01/05/08
Well that's hogmanay over - the bottle bank is awash with Colonsay beer bottles so it must have been a good one.
Beer is a living thing - it's just like a person - turns out different depending on how is is brought up.
We we reckon the 80/- Ale that has just been bottled is the best we hav
